Founder Fred submits a Slack add-in he prototyped over the weekend after reading a Substack about "human-aware engineering culture". The Slop King opens with "this is the future of remote work" before the Oracle has finished loading the search-volume panel.
The trial
The Demand witness is called first and the case ends there. Forty monthly searches for "async standup tool", cooling −12% MoM, no breakaway geography. The Oracle reads the number without inflection. The Slop King protests that "vibes are the moat" — the courtroom does not respond.
The Pain witness is dismissed before testimony: r/SaaS and r/managers complaints exist (44 / month) but they're about too many standup tools, not the absence of one. The Algorithm halts the trial at stage 1 — Money, Funding, Urgency and the rest are not called.
Verdict
KILL · LRS 39.6 · Cold. The Slop King files a written objection. Denied. The Oracle notes the case is shareable; Fred publishes the receipt before he leaves the studio.
What happens next
Fred pivots toward a narrower wedge — async daily decisions, not standups — and we will hear about it again in S1E5 if the new idea survives the Dungeon. The Slop King vanishes for the rest of the episode and reappears next week with a new robe.
